At NextGen Healthcare,
we work to ensure our products are effective across
specialties, and we develop solutions that meet
the specific needs of each specialty.
Based on feedback we have received, listed
below are five important requirements of the family
& primary healthcare community and
the solutions we provide to address them. |

To fully document primary care encounters
at the point of care
You want to document patient encounters electronically,
but it must be within your workflow, using
primary care content. Inflexible templates
are not acceptable.
It would be ideal if you were able to complete
a patient’s chart and orders during
the patient encounter. When you have completed
the visit, you are finished. |

NextGen’s Knowledge Base
Model for Family Practice
NextGen’s Knowledge Base Model for
Family Practice is a comprehensive and extremely
flexible set of templates, documents and
configuration settings that addresses the
needs of primary care workflows and allows
you to complete all documentation and orders
during the encounter.
The templates contain the content and context
you see in your practice. You won’t
see retina exam templates in this Knowledge
Base Model. You won’t see knee aspiration
procedures or colonoscopy examinations (though
they are available in other models). However,
you will see allergy tables, review of systems,
family history, history of present illness
and much, much more.
You will see the things you see in your
practice on a daily basis. The results will
be comprehensive, discrete, searchable data
that will be the basis of reports, documents,
coding, billing, referencing, alerts, and
more.
Within the templates, triggers maximize
efficiency by opening appropriate picklists,
generating alerts, or adjusting the workflow
– all customized for family practice.
And with an open architecture, the flexible
templates can easily be set up to exactly
suit your preferences, tendencies, and methods.
It is all at your fingertips and completed
with minimal clicks, so no follow-up documentation,
transcription, or orders are necessary.
You are ready for the next patient.

Disease Management
Managing your patient’s diseases is
critical. You want to be sure they are not
missing appointments, labs, or treatments.
You need to be sure they are complying properly.
To do this, you need the appropriate tools
that allow you to carefully monitor and
track your patients’ needs and progress.

and oversight. NextGen EMR’s features
assist providers in their disease management
by making this oversight as easy and yet
as comprehensive as possible.

You need to administer health
maintenance
Your patients count on you for preventative
measures. You would like an EMR that manages
each patient’s health status and provides
easy organization of recommended examinations,
testing, and results.
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
NextGen’s Health Maintenance
tools
NextGen EMR provides a whole host of tools
to use for the health maintenance of your
patients.
From a single screen, a provider can determine
or define screening and immunization recommendations
for a particular patient.
Screening and other due dates are repopulated
on the standard EPM phone template, so during
calls nurses are alerted to upcoming or
overdue needs.
Robust reporting of discrete data allows
providers to meet pay-for-performance initiatives
based on health maintenance measures.
Easy document generation gives providers
the opportunity to generate instructions,
patient education, letters, and orders in
one click that facilitate health maintenance
coordination and compliance.
Auto-charting gives providers quick views
of longitudinal data to quickly note progress
and trends.
And NextGen EMR’s lab order and results
module provides quick electronic ordering
and fast results returned directly into
the EMR.
The list goes on. The point is that NextGen
is at the forefront of health maintenance
and arms users with as many tools as possible
to keep patients healthy and providers organized
and efficient.

You need strong patient education
and communication capabilities
You know patient education and strong communication
are keys to providing efficient, high quality
care.
You want to keep your patients fully informed
and instructed and you want your communications
with them to be clear, appropriate, and
flexible.
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
NextGen EMR/EPM’s array
of education and communication features
NextGen Healthcare recognizes the power
of education and communication in healthcare.
Be it verbal or written, good education
and communication affords better medical
decision-making, higher patient compliance,
and faster, more accurate care.
To that end, NextGen centers many of its
features around the idea of streamlined
communications and education. The standard
telephone communication template within
NextGen EPM includes individual health maintenance
alerts and integrates with WorkLog Manager,
where tasks such as prescription refill
orders can be assigned to other staff members
for completion.
The Patient Education module consists of
more than 4,000 healthcare advisories and
reference handouts issued by Clinical Reference
Systems, and can be generated directly from
within NextGen EMR. Medication descriptions
and instructions are also easily generated
and printed for the patient, encouraging
safe and accurate use while minimizing errors,
miscommunication, misunderstandings, and
follow-up calls.
And NextMD, a secure internet portal, is
a pure patient-provider communication tool.
Through NextMD, patients can register for
the practice, request prescription refills,
complete forms or surveys, obtain patient
education or instructions, schedule appointments,
and complete an e-visit and e-consultation.
These e-encounters can lead to billable
events as this form of medical care gains
greater acceptance by payers and patients.

You need easy prescription management
Prescriptions can take a lot of time for
your practice. You have to research medications.
You have to write scripts. Patients sometimes
lose them. You get refill requests from
patients. You get calls from pharmacies.
How can you manage this and become efficient.
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
NextGen EMR’s Rx features
With a complete electronic medical records
system, you are no longer writing prescriptions.
With a couple of clicks, you have checked
the patient’s medication history,
scanned formularies, made your choice with
or without descriptions and decision support,
checked for drug and allergy interactions,
considered a generic, routed the script
to either the printer for the patient or
straight to the patient’s pharmacy,
and printed instructions for the patient.
And of course it is all documented in the
patient’s chart.
No more writing, no more securing prescription
pads, no more lost prescriptions, a reduction
of potential medication errors, fewer calls,
and happier patients leads to great benefits
and exemplary patient care and satisfaction.
