NextGen's enterprise practice management system is a platform-independent, fifth-generation client-server enterprise practice management system. Both scalable and flexible, it adheres to the latest open architecture standards. Written in Microsoft Visual Basic®, NextGen is a true 32-bit, multi-tier system built on the power, popularity and ease-of-use of Microsoft Windows® technology and can be used from any computer running the Windows operating system.
NextGen EPM is seamlessly integrated with NextGen EMR, sharing a single database, which means a single log-in, consolidated reporting, and faster, easier system maintenance. Its enterprise design also means data can be shared or isolated across practices and locations, allowing efficient access from anywhere for administrative or clinical management, maintenance, or use in care. (Read more about real practices benefiting from the enterprise platform.)
To ensure continuous service, NextGen EPM uses various technologies, including clustered Microsoft SQL Servers, Microsoft Active Directory Domain architecture and Windows O/S that support the hot swapping of drives. NextGen EPM also uses MS SQL Server 2000 replication to enable mobile clinician data access for physicians working remotely.
While practices often run the application on locally hosted servers, NextGen Healthcare can also accept transaction log transfers daily at its corporate data center, keeping a mirror-image copy of a practice’s database for emergency use. In addition, NextGen can serve as a full application and data center host in an ASP environment, so practice administrators can access the database, including
electronic medical records, in real time without maintaining their own servers.
