EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EPM (Enterprise Practice Management) systems

As a Microsoft-certified partner, NextGen EMR utilizes a spectrum of state-of-the-art Microsoft technology, including Windows OS, SQL database and Microsoft Active Domain architecture within our products—resulting in easy-to-use systems that drive adoption. NextGen Healthcare’s enterprise applications are fully integrated and employ sophisticated protocols to ensure complete security and HIPAA compliance.

NextGen EMR is seamlessly integrated with NextGen EPM, sharing a single database, which means a single log-in, consolidated reporting, and faster, easier system maintenance. Its enterprise design also means data can be shared or isolated across practices and locations, allowing efficient access from anywhere for administrative or clinical management, maintenance, or use in care.

NextGen EMR supports the latest open architecture standards through its flexible and scalable design. Written in Microsoft Visual Basic* and Visual C++,* NextGen EMR incorporates true client-server technology, relational database management and a graphical user interface. Users can interact with the system through a portable, wireless workstation, such as a Tablet or Pocket PC, or a standard Windows-based desktop PC with a mouse, light pen, or touch screen. As data is captured, it is relayed back to the database engine on a Unix®, Windows 2000/NT or Novell® server. Based on the platform chosen, NextGen EMR scales from one workstation to thousands.

While practices often run the application on locally hosted servers (usually SQL servers that “cluster” systems so one server can take over if another isn’t operating), NextGen Healthcare can also accept transaction log transfers daily at its corporate data center, keeping a mirror-image copy of a practice’s database for emergency use. In addition, NextGen Healthcare can serve as a full application and data center host for electronic medical records or practice management systems in an ASP environment, so physician practices can access the database in real time without maintaining their own servers.
